Towards the circular economy — Sustainable fouling mitigation strategies in ultrafiltration of secondary effluent

چکیده
Membrane separation is an emerging technology for secondary effluent (SE) recycling as alternative water source. However, SE contains metabolites which form a film on membrane surfaces, leading to decrease in hydraulic capacity. This extensive study of the effect fouling UF performance, with detailed analysis foulants composition and morphology, evaluation most effective – either physical or chemical regeneration methods. The paper also investigates FNA (recycled from WWTPs) acidic cleaning agent. In UF-DE mode, backwashing configuration was 1 s every min, where relative permeability decreased by 54% after 4-h, indicated presence physically irreversible separation. An acidic-alkaline procedure contribution 13% resulted 100% efficiency regeneration. results confirmed that recycled efficient pure reagent-nitric acid V use can reduce costs 60%. To fit idea circular economy, we proposed new strategy reusing spent solutions fertiliser.

Towards More Circular Economy and Sustainable Consumption – the Practice of Second Hand Clothing Consumption in Sweden
The rapid increase in clothing consumption over the last decades has meant a significant burden on the environment. Some examples of this are the high consumption of natural resources and land, increasing amounts of carbon emissions, excessive use of toxic chemicals, polluting air, land and water and increasing amounts of waste. The average clothing consumption in Europe is far higher than the ...

The UK economy is overly reliant on unsustainable production and consumption 12 practices, depleting finite resources at rates that will increase production costs, business risk and 13 economic instability. This over-consumption produces emissions and waste that cause climate 14 change and environmental degradation, impacting on the wellbeing of people in the UK and 15 beyond. The Resource Reco...

Improvement of the current waste management is one of the main challenges for most municipalities in Croatia, mainly due to legal obligations set in different European Union (EU) directives regarding waste management, such as reduction of waste generation and landfilling, or increase of separately collected waste and recycling rates. This paper highlights the current waste management in the cit...
